Director of Sales

Mercari is a full-service cannabis agency which helps Canadian brands navigate legalization.  From sourcing exotic genetics, to representing the most premium cannabis products across Canada, Mercari has a solution for your business.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Sales (DOS) will build and guide a team that focuses on building relationships, growing cannabis sales and chasing new business for Mercari products and services.  The DOS will develop and continue to grow a high performance team of junior to veteran sales staff in a modernized and data driven sales process.  The DOS will have the opportunity to shape, improve, set and execute the sales and service strategy of the organization as they partner with the Executive team of Mercari.

Responsibilities:

Targets and Strategy

  • Assist Mercari’s clients with provincial procurement and key account management.

  • Monitor, manage and report on sales metrics on a weekly/monthly basis, adjusting the business objectives as required.

  • Liaise with cannabis licence holders to identify business-to-business opportunities for sales, tolling, white labeling, and other cannabis services.

  • Set sales targets and accurately forecast annual, quarterly and monthly revenues.

  • Collaborate with management and research to facilitate the best possible service, workflow and communication to prospects.

  • Analyze and provide direction based on market trends, key industry issues, challenges and opportunities and customer buying patterns.

  • Recommend sales strategies for improvement based on market research and competitive analysis.

  • Evaluate success of sales programs and implement changes to ensure goals are achieved: growing Mercari’s cannabis portfolio, and maximizing distribution and visibility to increase market share and net customer base.

Team Management

  • Manage and develop sales team by providing mentoring, supervision, coaching/training, monitoring activities, and participating in performance assessment and professional development of sales staff.

  • Lead by example by demonstrating on a daily basis the core values of Mercari.

  • Support and build morale and performance, to be executed with the resources/incentives/programs available.

  • Collaboratively develop and deliver targeted training and call review sessions to insure best practice is being implemented across all sales cycles.

  • Assist in Sales conversations and provide on-call support to ensure successful account acquisition and client satisfaction.

  • Ensure the implementation, execution and monitoring of sales policies and practices.

  • Initiate process improvement discussions and establish/ communicate solutions.

  • Promote a positive corporate image of Mercari by ensuring that appropriate and specified standards are maintained in all sales, support and service delivery activities.

Skills

  • University/college graduate (required), MBA preferred.

  • Strong and demonstrated leadership skills and excellent people management skills.

  • Proven experience creating a successful sales team (beverage, alcohol, cannabis ideal).

  • History of success in efficient management practices and leading highly productive teams.

  • Commitment to customer focus and service excellence.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage time in the face of competing priorities.

  • Strong analytical and problem resolution skills at both a strategic and functional level.

  • Excellent negotiation, sales and presentation skills.

  • Bottom-line oriented, budget conscious, and metric/measurement driven.

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results under pressure and adapt to changing business requirements.

  • Experience with Salesforce, Google Drive, and Microsoft Office preferred.

Brand Ambassadors

Mercari Agency is looking for an energetic, driven and knowledgeable Brand Ambassadors for various cannabis pop ups across Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia. Brand Ambassadors must be passionate about cannabis, as well as certified to work in their province.

Mercari Brand Ambassadors will help support our reps in the field and collaborate with them to achieve our client’s goals. You are a reliable and driven teammate that is eager to wear many different hats to bring an idea to life. As an intuitive problem solver, you are able to react quickly and also anticipate issues before they arise with calmness and ease.

  • Activate cannabis brands at events & activity in order to help increase awareness & sales in these markets

  • Coordinate with our Sales Manager to plan events

  • Collect materials, set up and tear down of activations

  • Connect with people to educate and engage them

  • Compile and keep track of metrics

  • Deliver feedback and ideas on how to improve engagements

  • Maintain relationships with budtenders, managers, and other retail employees

  • Be a positive advocate for Mercari brands and clients by acquiring a strong familiarity with their products, mission and values

  • Able to pivot and adapt quickly in a fast-paced changing environment 

  • Able to travel as well as work evenings and weekends as needed

  • Travel outside of territory is covered.

Requirements:

  • CanSell, SellSafe and / or CannaReps training mandatory 

  • Must be at least 19 years of age

  • Valid and clean driver’s licence

  • Own/lease a reliable vehicle with an active insurance policy

  • Experience in the cannabis industry

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Cannabis customer service and/or hospitality experience

  • Punctuality and reliability

  • Must be able to learn, retain and convey information about company products with confidence 

  • Comfortable with large crowds and engaging with diverse clientele

  • Familiar with popular social media platforms

  • Able to travel as well as work evenings and weekends as needed
